A Bit About Hanan

Hanan spent much of her youth in Lawrence, Kansas before eventually making her way to Virginia. By day, she provides ABA therapy to children on the autism spectrum—meaning she spends her days running, singing and storytelling with a bunch of amazing kids. In her quieter moments, she enjoys working with clay, a practice that has become both a creative outlet and a way to slow down.

She began working at Potters Union at the same time she became a beginner wheel-throwing student, immersing herself in the pottery world to gain a more holistic understanding of the craft. Still new to ceramics, Hanan is learning to create functional pieces while experimenting with different ways to express her artistic voice. She aims to incorporate elements of her cultural background into her pieces in the future.

Hanan spends whatever time she can traveling, exploring the world. She has backpacked, road tripped, train hopped and done whatever she can to venture out. she often found herself drawn to learning about craftsmanship, specifically ceramics everywhere she visits, and decided it was something she wanted to pursue learning to do herself.

Beyond pottery, she has an interest in fiber arts, particularly crochet and dyeing, as well as photography. When she’s not creating with her hands or behind a camera, she can usually be found curled up with a book(or complaining about said book).
