A Bit About Kerima

Kerima is a ceramic artist and curious human who believes that making art with your hands is one of the most grounding and hopeful things you can do. Whether it’s sipping tea from a handmade mug or pulling a glaze experiment from the kiln, she’s here for the beauty hidden in everyday rituals.

After a spontaneous ceramics class in college, taken purely for fun, clay slowly worked its way into her life (and under her fingernails). She now makes small-batch, wheel-thrown pottery that blends heritage, faith, and function—pieces meant to be used, touched, and loved.

Kerima also works as an accountant, drawn to precision, balance, and structure. These qualities carry over into her work at the wheel. Lately, she has been focused on studying glaze chemistry, with a particular fascination for crystalline glazes and the mysteries of kiln firing.

She has studied under inspiring teachers at NVCC Annandale and the Workhouse Arts Center, where she learned that good pottery requires patience, precision, and a good sense of humor when the kiln has other plans.

Kerima is excited to join the Potters Union team, where she will be teaching wheel-throwing. She hopes to encourage others to slow down, explore clay, and enjoy the messy, meaningful process of making it by hand.
